What is your position with Ellipsis?
I’m a nurse care coordinator.
How long have you worked here?
I’ve worked at Ellipsis for about a year.
Have you had any other roles/jobs during your tenure with Ellipsis?
I’ve always been a nurse care coordinator while working at Ellipsis.
What drew you to work at Ellipsis?
I was looking for a change career-wise, and I had always thought about nurse care coordination. I researched Ellipsis and loved what they do for our community.
Can you recall a moment (during your career with Ellipsis) when you felt like you were in exactly the right place, doing exactly what you should be doing? What was that like?
I love that I am treated like an actual human being and staff member rather than just a number. I love that I am cared for, listened to and respected. I have never had that in any other job I have ever worked at.
What are some of the more challenging aspects of this job?
I don’t find anything too challenging about this job. I will admit that at first, I was really nervous teaching clinicals to groups of people. I get anxious speaking in front of others, but I have grown to love it. It’s one of my favorite things about my job.
What are some of the rewarding aspects of the job?
I love to help our kids and families. It’s really rewarding when I can find services that help children and parents be the best they can be.
Why is it important to have residential programs in communities and qualified people working in them?
It’s important for people to know they have a safe place to go with no judgment and qualified people to work with them to help them reach their full potential.
What is a misconception people may have about mental health treatment? How do you dispel that?
A misconception is that a mental health disorder is something to be ashamed of. Some people are embarrassed to get help and admit they have a mental health condition. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. What they don’t know is that more than 58 million people in the U.S. have a mental health diagnosis. I think if more people knew they weren’t alone in this, they would seek help more often.
If there’s anything else you’d like to add about your role, please feel free to do so!
I love my job with Ellipsis. I love all the roles and responsibilities I have a part in here. One of my favorite things is going out into the community and educating people on what we do and how we can help.
