POSITION PURPOSE

Sets the strategic direction for the nonprofit and ensures successful implementation of strategic objectives working closely with the Board of Directors. Provides vision and leadership to the entire organization and builds a healthy and thriving workplace culture. Oversees successful execution of the Ellipsis philanthropic efforts, service delivery, and administrative functions. Builds and maintains strong relationships with donors, agency partners, and the public while ensuring they know and value Ellipsis’s mission and community impact.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy

  • Leads and supports the definition of the organization’s strategic plan, in conjunction with the Board of Directors and the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Ensures that the philanthropy, clinical, operations, quality and compliance, and administrative leaders discern and articulate departmental strategies and tactics in response to the overall strategic plan.

Ethics

  • Establishes, promotes, and upholds the ethical standards for the nonprofit’s activities and behaviors.

Board

  • Acts as the primary liaison with the Ellipsis Board of Directors; informs the Board about Ellipsis operations and programs.
  • Supports the development and implementation of policies and procedures established by the Board.
  • Plays an active role on Board committees.

Leadership Development

  • Contributes to the growth of the organization as the leader of the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Manages performance of organization’s Executive leadership Team. Works with leaders to establish performance goals and hold them accountable for their performance, including annual performance management, ongoing development, and corrective action where needed.
  • Ensures continuity of the leadership team by overseeing succession planning and/or recruitment efforts for key leadership positions.
  • Actively promotes adherence to the Ellipsis values by all leaders and employees.
  • Builds an effective, mission-driven, and positive culture, evidenced by a committed and engaged team.

Philanthropy

  • Directss the organizations’ philanthropic efforts in order to support the long term sustainability of Ellipsis.
  • In collaboration with the Philanthropy team, builds relationships and raises funds on behalf of the organization.
  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits prospective donors; plays an active role in nurturing relationships with key donors.
  • Builds strong relationships with the Board of Directors with a goal of driving financial contribution.

Financial Management

  • Oversees development of the proposed annual budget and collaborates with the Board of Directors to approve the budget.
  • Manages the organizations’ financial affairs in accordance with the approved budget.
  • Ensures accurate and timely financial reporting to the Board of Directors.

Service Development

  • Anticipates evolving community needs and seeks to position Ellipsis as the preferred agency to solve complex problems facing children and their families
  • Explores opportunities for Ellipsis’s growth through new or expanded services or programs, either individually or through partnerships
  • Evaluates program efficacy and ensures delivery of best-in-class services

Public Policy and Advocacy

  • Develops, plans, coordinates, and implements Ellipsis’s public policy agenda.
  • Actively advocates for children and families through participation in children’s services advisory groups, committees, working groups, etc.
  • Oversees efforts of paid lobbyists, where applicable.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a social services field with Master’s degree preferred
  • Extensive experience in human services work; a minimum of 10+ years of experience required
  • A minimum of 5+ years of senior level administrative experience; supervisory span of control should exceed 20 employees with extensive experience in human services work preferred
  • Demonstrated performance as a leader, including the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams
  • Demonstrated team-building skills, including the ability to identify goals, solve problems, and develop solutions
  • Proven ability to successfully deliver on organizational strategy and strategic projects, with demonstrated ability to plan, execute, track, and report on progress toward goals
  • Critical thinker and problem solver who demonstrates effective decision-making and time-management skills
  • Polished and professional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to skillfully represent the organization in public and in the media
  • Able to work independently, with minimal oversight, and with high ethical standards
  • Able to deal tactfully with youth, family members, visitors, government agency representatives and the general public
  • Able to provide positive role modeling for residents in areas of communication, decision-making, and problem solving
  • Willing to make decisions based on what’s best for kids and families
  • Basic computer skills including experience working in Microsoft Windows and Office products
  • Clear criminal and child abuse background checks
  • Understanding of the Juvenile Court System and the Department of Human Services system strongly preferred
  • Experience working with children and families in a community-based program strongly preferred
  • Knowledge in the field of child services is ideal. Knowledge or prior experience working with high-risk youth, especially with youth who have experienced abuse, neglect, homelessness, or other traumatic experiences preferred
